Yes, you’ve heard his Love Story…but did you know about his Depression Story?
It’s about Rain feeling lonely and entertaining thoughts about death. The 28 year old spilled the beans about his depression on April 13 while filming KBS2TV’s Win Win variety show.
“I was so depressed and lonely that I had an extreme thought. I was flying one day and I wished the plane crashed. At least people would remember me as someone who was trying his best,” Rain confessed.
However, something stopped the singer/actor/ entrepreneur from ending his life – marriage. “I just couldn’t die before getting married!
“I always thought I was a strong person, but the depression that came over me at that time was just too much,” he revealed.
And when exactly did this happen?
It was when the Love Song singer was filming his US debut flick Ninja Assassin. While extremely happy and excited about the project initially, Rain eventually felt the pressure and loneliness while working in the United States.
“When I was cast for Ninja Assassin, I thought: ‘I’m finally becoming a star, I’m becoming Brad Pitt!’. I got so excited. I thought the cast and crew were too good for a first timer like me. I thought my day has finally come…and they even offered me a really nice house to live in.”
However, Rain decided to stick to the way he was used to. So he stayed in a humble house and practiced discipline. He was his own worst critic. “I put a photo of Bruce Lee on my fridge. I only ate lemon, cabbage, apples and chicken breasts. I did push-ups every time before shooting. The “battle” kept going on even at home after work,” Rain recalled.
The straw that broke the camel’s back was Yoo Jae-suk singing a carol on TV. It was during the Christmas holidays when lonely Rain tuned into Infinite Challenge. “I was watching Infinite Challenge and there was Yoo Jae-suk singing a carol. I found myself weeping. I thought to myself: ‘I’m supposed to be there too…’”
Rain’s Depression Story ends on a happy note – thank God. The Korean superstar completed filming Ninja Assassin and eventually got out of depression. “When shooting was finally over, the director gave me a bottle of soju. I finished it on the spot, and I also swore in Korean. They wouldn’t have understood it. I was really proud of myself. Really.”

04.23.10 [Update] Rain’s Physical Condition
Clouds, I’ve just read some updates about Rain. He went to KBS for pre-recording Music Bank for his next week’s comeback stage. He used to sing 2 songs but at the end he decided to record one song only (Love Song). As per some Korean Clouds said, his condition seemed better than yesterday but still not pretty good. It seems like he got flu. He got a stuffed nose and chills. His outfit for Love Song was in red color and recorded Love Song for 4 times. Although he didn’t feel well, but he did communicate with Clouds who attended the recording a lot and kept smiling.
OK, one more update.

Rain had his ‘Legend of Rainism’ concert as part of an encore in ‘National Yoyogi Stadium’ in Japan’s Tokyo during both days of the 17th and the 18th of April, 2010.
‘National Yoyogi Stadium’ where there is Harazuku Station which is one of the largest shopping areas in that country near here, is one of the best venues to hold a concert in that country in availability and location for the concert.His more than 10,000 fans who packed the venue on each of two days, chanted his name, not being seated throughout its over two hours running time.
Various people regardless of age and sex, from a 6 year old child who clutched his mother’s hand and came to the concert, to a grandmother helped by his grandson, including hopeful young men and women, were at the concert.
In particular, during the performance on the 18th, Rain jumped off from the stage and walked toward the audience while he was singing his hit song ‘My Woman’, thus, the barriers nearly gave away under the press of the crowd, then his body guards had to come there quickly and to bear the weight of the crowd with their bodies.

Singers Rain and PSY to Appear on SBS’s ‘Intimate Note’
It looks like these two singers, who debuted one year apart, will be sitting down together on a new episode of ‘Intimate Note’.

Q : Your concert has finally been finished.
Rain : I feel free from the cares of homework for hours. My staffs suffered more hardship than ever before. I was able to finish my concert successfully because of the support of my fans.
During this concert, there were a lot of songs to communicate with them in comparison with the other one, therefore, perhaps this will particularly linger long in my memory.
My stage was more at ease, spending 8 months. I even considered the thought of living while performing on stage.
Q; How were you preparations for your last stage going?
Rain : I’ve felt much better now that I’ve taken off 10 kg before the release of my special album. ‘Sad Tango’ and ‘Hip Song’ which were not on the song lists were added to this concert. I seemed to make a good choice even though it was hard to perform.
Q : You emphasized on communicating with your fans during this performance.
Rain : There is no point just showing my music and performance unnecessarily. I’ve found through this concert that the stage is completed while communicating with them. I never lost my desire to perform.
In June, I plan to put on shows, each of the venues of which has a 3,000-seat capacity, traveling around 15 cities in Japan. Compared with other great concert, I believe that we can feel a sense of closeness and happiness during the performance.
Q: What’s next for you?
Rain : I seem to concentrate more on the activities for my special album after this concert. I’m going to be even busier with shooting a TV drama which will begin in June. There’ll be an opportunity for its full details to be released. I’m planning to release my regular album at the end of this year.
Meanwhile, one of Rain’s close friends, Baekga who accompanied Rain to the concert after undergoing big surgical operation, got a lot of attention. Baekga sometimes took pictures of the show scenes, watching the show and doing a cheer for Rain.
Rain and his staffs after the concert visited a Korean traditional restaurant called ‘Gosirae’ which is run by Hanryu star (the Korean Wave star) ‘Bae Yong-Joon’, but unfortunately Rain didn’t make the meeting with ‘Bae’.

Q : Your concert has finally been finished.
Rain : I feel free from the cares of homework for hours. My staffs suffered more hardship than ever before. I was able to finish my concert successfully because of the support of my fans.
During this concert, there were a lot of songs to communicate with them in comparison with the other one, therefore, perhaps this will particularly linger long in my memory.
My stage was more at ease, spending 8 months. I even considered the thought of living while performing on stage.
Q; How were you preparations for your last stage going?
Rain : I’ve felt much better now that I’ve taken off 10 kg before the release of my special album. ‘Sad Tango’ and ‘Hip Song’ which were not on the song lists were added to this concert. I seemed to make a good choice even though it was hard to perform.
Q : You emphasized on communicating with your fans during this performance.
Rain : There is no point just showing my music and performance unnecessarily. I’ve found through this concert that the stage is completed while communicating with them. I never lost my desire to perform.
In June, I plan to put on shows, each of the venues of which has a 3,000-seat capacity, traveling around 15 cities in Japan. Compared with other great concert, I believe that we can feel a sense of closeness and happiness during the performance.
Q: What’s next for you?
Rain : I seem to concentrate more on the activities for my special album after this concert. I’m going to be even busier with shooting a TV drama which will begin in June. There’ll be an opportunity for its full details to be released. I’m planning to release my regular album at the end of this year.
Meanwhile, one of Rain’s close friends, Baekga who accompanied Rain to the concert after undergoing big surgical operation, got a lot of attention. Baekga sometimes took pictures of the show scenes, watching the show and doing a cheer for Rain.
Rain and his staffs after the concert visited a Korean traditional restaurant called ‘Gosirae’ which is run by Hanryu star (the Korean Wave star) ‘Bae Yong-Joon’, but unfortunately Rain didn’t make the meeting with ‘Bae’.
There is saying that Rain always causes rain whenever he puts on a show abroad. Sure enough, it poured down on the Japanese Islands all day long, on the 15h when he entered in the country.

Rain said about his new concept for Love Song, “You’ll notice that I mostly got rid of big and fancy accessories. That’s because I wanted to focus on myself. The album title Back to the Basic is about that too. I wanted to go back to the beginning.”
He continued, “And the choreography where I go shirtless is not about being macho. It’s more about portraying a faithful and real heart and mind.”
When asked whether or not his past break-ups help him put emotion in his songs, he answered, “People ask me if I’ve ever been dumped by a girl. It’s hard to think that you’ve broken up with someone. When someone who would smile right next to me disappears, that pain becomes the story of my songs.”
When asked about the album concept, he said, “I’m not different from the me during my rookie days and the person I am now. I still am thankful for the people who don’t forget who I am and I always want to be closer to my fans. And to think that people are looking up to me as a mentor means so much to me. It’s really interesting and I feel responsible. That’s why I work so hard and give everything my all.”
He is planning on being in a Korean drama in September or October of this year. He is also looking to release a full album by the end of the year.
